Pavilions and courtyards

Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest, oldest, and most important royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, which ruled Korea for more than 500 years. The palace served as the political, cultural, and ceremonial center of historic Korea. Visitors can walk through vast stone courtyards, enter the main throne hall, and explore multiple wooden pavilions surrounded by gardens and ponds. One of the main highlights is the Changing of the Guard ceremony, performed daily in historically accurate uniforms. Museums inside the complex provide context on royal life, governance, and Confucian traditions, making this an essential site for understanding Korean history.
